Denise Radley Auctioneers are delighted to bring this wonderful family home to the market place. It is certainly a once off property. It has an abundance of character and is as impressive externally as internally. The gardens can only be described as breath-taking and a dream for the person who has green fingers. There is an array of flowers, tropical plants, shrubs and fruit plants around this garden. The pond is a focal point and the raised deck area with the swinging seat in place I could only feel like you are on a topical island..
The property is spread over three levels, the ground floor has large spacious reception and entertaining rooms, second and third floor have large oversized bedrooms. There are five bedrooms, two large bathrooms, sunroom, dining room, living room, kitchen/dining room, utility room and WC.
The sunroom is a major WOW factor. It has triple glazed windows and doors and a glass sunwell roof. You could be anywhere in the world when sitting in this room, looking out at the beautiful gardens and admiring the wildlife is one the major advantages to securing this property.
The house has a wonderful kitchen/dining room. This room is very bright and airy. It has double height ceiling with velux windows. There are double doors leading to the garden area. The Stanley Stove is certainly a feature that is in keeping with the property’s charter.
The first record we have for Lackendarra House dates to 1644, when the property was confiscated from the Catholic McNichola’s family and given to the Fitzgerald’s described as ‘Irish Protestants.’ It remained the home of the Fitzgerald’s until 1899 when Southwell Fitzgerald died without heir and the house became the home of the Russell’s. They remained until the 1960s. By 2006 the current (probably 19th century) structure was all but derelict. The current owner has restored it from the roof down creating a modern timber-frame home within the 2ft thick stone walls, to the highest modern specifications, while retaining and enhancing the historic character of this landmark property.
Today Lackendarra House is a warm, bright, spacious home full of historic character, set in an acre of easily maintained wildlife, sub-tropical and fruit gardens. It is tucked into the natural folds of the land in this the sunniest part of Ireland, minutes from the sandy beaches of Calyso and Whiting Bays. Ardmore and Youghal with their shops and restaurants are less than 10 minutes away. And it is only 45minutes to Cork airport.
In winter the house is heated by solar panels, log burning stoves and a Stanley range. There are areas with under floor heating and the central heating system uses energy efficient Solo radiators. There is a large amount of timer stored onsite. The current owner has provided the option of OFCH, but has never needed it.
